Ubisoft's Open-World Star Wars Game Looks Incredible

Is Ubisoft creating a huge new blockbuster with a really good plot and fascinating characters? Star Wars Outlaws makes it appear that way unmistakably. At Microsoft's Xbox Showcase, the open-world sci-fi game from the publisher's Division 2 team was unveiled to the public, and it so far looks amazing.

The character Kay is followed throughout the trailer as she makes her way through the Star Wars universe's criminal underground. There are Clone Troopers, blasters, and spacecraft. The fact that the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC release doesn't appear to be another Star Wars game is perhaps the biggest surprise. Check it out for yourself:

It's unclear from the trailer whether Star Wars Outlaws will be a third-person action RPG or a more cinematic over-the-shoulder adventure game, but it does give the impression that characters will take precedence over the variety of systems and mechanics that have become synonymous with Ubisoft's map games. At least, that is my hope.

When does Outlaws fall in the Star Wars timeline?

The battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance is nearing its conclusion when the game is set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Kay is getting ready to pull out one of the "biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen" during this time. The monster Nix hangs out on her shoulder and the BX-Commando Droid in his trench coat will be able to assist her.

We've known for a few years that Ubisoft is developing a Star Wars game, but Kotaku just revealed that the game is further along than some fans may have previously believed. According to the most recent information, the game is aiming to be released in March 2024, while some Ubisoft employees believe the deadline is still fanciful despite the game's encouraging development.

After years of delays, unfinished projects, and underwhelming sales, the publisher of Assassin's Creed is eager for success. The beginning of that reversal may occur with Star Wars Outlaws if the finished product is as fantastic as the first trailer suggests.
